Dr. Cristina M. Caperchione (BHK Hons., MHK, PhD) is an Associate Professor in Sport and Exercise Science at University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Sydney, Australia and an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her research interests include health-related physical activity and the use of behavioural change strategies in the prevention, reduction and management of chronic disease. She is an expert in designing innovative community level health promotion interventions, with a particular focus on the physical activity behaviours of priority populations, including inactive men, those living with cancer, and at risk adolescent girls.

She currently leads the Cancer Care Workforce Project, funded by the Translational Cancer Research Network-NSW, which is examining the cancer workforce’s capacity to implement exercise counselling and an exercise referral pathway in Sydney, NSW. She is also leading the Australian HAT TRICK program, a physical activity, healthy eating and mental fitness intervention for inactive overweight men which was originally developed by Dr. Caperchione in Canada and funded by the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation. A central component of her research is translating evidence based research into ‘real world’ health promotion practice. This has been clearly demonstrated by the number of projects that have been disseminated to community practice directly from her research program and the national and international research teams that she continues to work with.
